Susan and I took a drive to Sleepy Hollow – we were hoping to get some nice photos of the Autumn colors, but the rain had caused most of the red leaves to fall, we did see some red but mostly yellow and brown. We decided to stop at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the weather was iffy but that seemed to keep the crowds away in the morning.

The first entrance to the cemetery seemed like the main entrance and there was a line to get in, so we drove down just a little and the 2nd entrance was empty. We did not have a map and next time we will definitely bring one. Susan used her phone to pull up some info on the graves. The first one which caught our interest was Spencer Blaine, the carving was very unusual.

The carved woman on the Edwin Lister grave was really interesting, I wondered what was in her hand – there is very little information about Edwin Lister.

The day really was nice – the place was crowded but we were seldom in an area with more than 1 or 2 other people. We really had a hard time finding anyone FAMOUS, but finally we came upon the scariest mausoleum, the name was not visible from the path, and if you followed the road to the front of the building you couldn’t see anything. Walking up the hill we could see the stained glass window of the NY Skyline on the side of the building, the path continued to the right with breathtaking views, and when you were directly in front of the door you could see the name which brought fear to so many. HEMSLEY – if you peek in the front door you can see the stained glass featuring the Empire State Building . By the time we left many more people had come, there were lines waiting to come in at all the gates.

You can see the rest of the photos here

Hope you all had a safe Happy Halloween & Samhain

Brightest Blessings,

As you may be able to tell by my (lack of) posts, things have been busy at the day job. But this past week I was able to take a vacation and have fit quite a bit in so far. And I have big plans for the rest of the week!

Last Friday Morgan and I headed off to my sister’s place in Equinunk, PA. Most of my immediate family would be coming up for the weekend.

On the drive up we were stopped at a roadblock in Bethel Woods, NY – guess the local cops were looking to see if we were drugged hippies coming for the Woodstock reunion. The rest of the weekend was filled with good food, great company, a campfire and more stars than I think I’ve ever seen! There were so many stars in fact that the familiar constalations were almost unrecognizable. The great visibility also allowed up a great view of the stragglers from the meteor shower – not too many streaks but the ones which were there were BRIGHT!

Driving home we stopped and took a few photos.

A lot of the original campers never left.

Monday morning Morgan had to place an order for 175 first day of school Sen10r girls shirts. Once it was placed, we headed North – next stop Burlington, VT!

Adam & Chrissy have a great new apartment with a great view of Church street – if you look really carefully you can see adam in the curved window over Binimi Bill’s

Here is one of the locals

We spend a very pleasant time visiting and on Wednesday we headed off to Lake George – Morgan wanted to visit some friends who she wouldn’t have a chance to see – and it wasn’t too far out of our way. I listened to audio books while she had her visit and then we headed homeward. We stopped at LG Village

and had lunch and took a walk – it was HOT HOT HOT, here is Morgan on a dock at the very end of Lake George

- finally we really needed to get moving – so off we went! Arrived home before 9 and had a great night’s sleep – in my own bed!

I hope to post some art this weekend! Stay Tuned!

This is my page for Red Dog Scott’s True Colors RR. Her theme is silvers, blues. I decided to use a canvas misprint of a photo I took at NY’s Stone Bridge. I also used a photo of a mermaid I took at the Met a few years ago. I wonder if this statue is the Siren used for Starbucks? It certainly looks like the same one, at least from this story.

In addition to printing, this page was painted with acrylics and embellished with gel medium and medium with glass beads.

WIP = Work In Progress

I am thrilled to be taking a class this week with Marilyn Sholin – she is a Master with Corel Painter X, and a lot of fun! The 5 day class in being held by the Niagara School of Imaging in St. Catharine’s Canada. We are having a blast in our class – I have to think that it is the most fun of all but all the students I’ve met are really liking their classes. Most of the students are professional photographers, and there is a full range of classes.

I first heard about Painter when I saw a YouTube video from one of Marilyn’s classes

It looked like so much fun – but I was pretty sure it wasn’t something I could fit in. But as fate would have it, she was teaching in a location that I could drive to, and the school even had a payment plan. Add to that the fact that I was already scheduled to take off for a family vacation that week, and the only thing I had to figure out was how to tell Tom and Morgan that I’d be bailing on Lake George for most of the family vacation. I am very happy to say they said they would miss me but that I should have a good time! And I can tell you I’m having a BALL!

Sunday was spent visiting several classrooms and listening to the teachers explain what they were going to be doing. All the teachers seemed very knowledgeable, giving and personable – all nice qualities and often hard to find together!

Marilyn also gave a talk and after dinner we went to our first evenings classes. What a long day – but I was too excited to feel tired. Mostly we set up our tablets and laptops so that Monday morning we would be set to go. Monday we started at 8:30 until 5 then 7 to 9 we were back in class working – here is one of my starting images, a photo I took at the Winchester Mystery House.

The next group are images which were manipulated to make the color variations

This last image is the way it was sent to the printer, after I worked with all the other images. It was printed this evening on canvas and tomorrow we get to work on the next step! I’m having SO MUCH FUN!

Time for bed – I’ve got to get up early!

I worked on the collage for Karen this weekend – actually I worked on it quite a bit. The first piece i worked on was coming out very nicely and then… when I was almost done… the image started to bubble off the canvas! I have no idea why, it must have been some kind of a chemical reaction. The only thing I can tell you I am very grateful for is that i did not buy the super large quantity of canvas from Fredrick’s!

This scan is a little shiny but I like the way it came out – the waterfall doesn’t really show the texture, so I’m going to have to figure out another way to get better pictures.

I’ll send this on today – hope she likes it.

Oh this photo was taken last summer on vacation at Stonebridge in NY. I liked the Cairns that were built in the foreground.
